Your fridge does not operate continuous for 24 hours. It is equipped with a thermostat which will switch off the compressor once the cabinet temperature setpoint has been reached. A good model fridge in hot temperature could typically run for ten hours a day.

We always unplug our fridge before recording. But, our equipment is only a couple feet in front of it. So, we kinda have to.

But the more I keep the fridge full, the LESS power I seem to have.

Bart: Dad, have you been working out?
Homer: Well, I have been eating more.

Another thing to remember is that the more filled your refrigerator is the more power it saves. When a refrigerator is full it has less air to cool. Keep jugs of water in there whether you need them or not.

And don't sit in front of the frige "grazing". Get what you need/want and close the damn door. The longer the door is open the longer it will take to cool.

Go green, get a solar panel and battery back up system solely for the refrigerator.

That's great to know! Yeah, those meters are funny things, they do look so outdated in today's world of high-tech everything. I live in a building of 5 units and the other 4 are inhabited by old folks with no computers, or much of anything "high-tech". I would pass by the bank of meters every time I walked out the building (before they recently brought the electrical into the 21st century and re-wired everything). I noticed that the other tenants - old ladies who watched TV or listened to radio with one light on - their meters looked practically dead. In contrast to MY meter, which was ALWAYS whizzing around like Mercury around the sun, about one rev per 2 seconds. It would make me feel pretty guilty, with my 2 flatscreens, laptop. 8 IKEA lamps, sewing machine, blender, cat drinking fountain, straightening iron, food processor, vibrator (oh wait that's battery powered) and iPod boombox. I mean, how much power can one person consume in a one-room apartment? A LOT, apparently!
