“$30 Film School”, ninth printing
I got an e-mail from the company today casually asking out of the blue if I could compile all of my updates for the next printing by, oh, say….Friday.
It’s not a new edition, just little touch ups of the second edition, but there’s always a lot of them. People move, people die, Web addresses change, software gets updated, etc.
I’m busier this week than a long-tailed cat in a room fulla rocking chairs.
But that’s what they call “a quality problem”……..I’m damn happy. It sure beats having nothing to do, and I’ve done that before.

Mr. Micheal W. Dean,
I received it as a gift from my brother this Christmas 07 and have been telling everyone about it. It’s exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you for writing $30 Film School and please keep writing in general. My life has a brighter future.

Hello, Mr. Dean,
I’m an aspiring filmmaker from Bulgaria, EU.
A friend of mine gave this book to me. I’m very happy that I read it and I would recommend it to everyone who’s interested in filmmaking and art-making in general. The path of the artist is certainly not an easy one but it’s worth it. It’s real. The book describes that very well.
The book is easy and entertaining to read, but filled with a lot of useful info at the same time.
Lots of practical information, references and examples. An inspiration for the indie DIY artist.
It really helped me. Thanks for writing it.
Keep doing-it-yourself.
All the best.

I was in pre-production with my ultra-low budget, SAG sanctioned, sci-fi comedy feature length HD video movie, “They Quack Among Us”, when I came across Dean’s book. I carefully read it from cover to cover and learned things I was not aware of as well as confirming things I was aware of, too. This is a practical MUST read and heed book for any one desiring to vent their passion onto the small or big “screen”. Kudos to Michael W. Dean for helping me to fine tune my movie making!

I had always had creative film visions but I was completely ignorant about how someone actually makes a film. Out of all the many books I’ve read about filmmaking for the humble beginner, this book is by far the most complete and concise recourse for those of us who want to get down and dirty and make our visions a reality. Michael W. Dean has a real and down-to-earth voice throughout his work. This book is the single inspiration I have for getting off my butt and creating art and it has the strength to empower any independent and D.I.Y spirit.
