Got two Smith & Wesson 9mms. Yay! (I love how the photos of me with glasses and the gun make me look responsible, but without the glasses, I look criminal. I’m not. They’re fully legal, registered, and for target shooting and personal protection only.)
Nice pieces. I’d suggest indexing your trigger finger on the frame…looks like it has a tendency to wander inside the trigger guard. Make sure to get some training on how to shoot and how to fight with them.
They’re our “training guns.” We’ll get 45s after we master these. And 9mm ain’t bad stoppers at short range with hollow points with double taps.
We have the 12 gauge for home defense, but it won’t fit in a pocket, and we’re applying for carry permits (after we get good enough to pass the target test). And these are MUCH cheaper per shot to practice with at the range than the 12 gauge. (like 25 cents per bullet vs. a dollar per shot shell.)

Good point, though I knew they weren’t loaded, as I’d just taken them apart and cleaned them. But for the sake of good gun handling examples, I took two more, held as you suggested, and put them at the bottom.
Where I live, getting a concealed carry permit is relatively easy. And I noticed something: the gun you have with you is a lot better than the gun sitting at home, IF you suddenly need a gun.
And your favorite pistol (whatever that may be) is often the one you don’t carry because it’s too big, too heavy, “prints” under your clothes, or whatever. So you make compromises. I loved my .45 but even a short version was too much steel for me to carry around…plus I got tired of wearing Hawaiian shirts all the time to hide the pistol.
I know a guy with an extensive pistol collection who, for self-defense, carries a little Beretta .25 pistol. Just sticks it in his pocket. I love the portability but can’t say much for the caliber. A couple of shots to the head, of course, will probably end any fight, if you’re good or lucky enough to hit a head-sized target with any consistency (keeping in mind that it usually is a moving target, especially when it sees you whip out a pistol.)
Oddly, though I’ve had my CC permit for years, I never carry. Even a small pistol is too much hassle. It’d be different if I lived in a scarier place, I guess.
If/when you get a concealed carry permit, check for reciprocity. That is, which states recognize a California CCL. That way if you travel you may be able to pack in certain other states.
As I understand it, not all states recognize the permits from all other states, but most recognize SOME from other states. Unlike driver’s licenses, for instance, which are universally recognized (my European girlfriend can drive here with her license, I can drive there with mine—-but fuck me if I can carry a pistol in my waistband there!)
A buddy in Ohio got himself a permit there, AND a permit from Florida through some sort of reciprocity deal. He did this because between the two, he could pack heat in a hell of a lot of different states if need be.
California is shitty on issuing concealed carry permits, and shitty on reciprocity. A few states recognize California, but not sure if the reverse is true.

Guess I’ll have to plan on breaking into someone else’s house now… jeez, had to ruin all my fun.

I’m curious about your choice of 9mm—a notoriously poor stopper.
Nice guns though, nonetheless.

I live in Oklahoma.
