Yay! Thank you Erin. and yay you! I like having friends who have their life together.

I used to not have any, back in the day, which is what forced me to change my friends.

That whole essay sounds like something that I was saying just last night at work...I am a contracted worker (a temp, if you will) that consistently either gets job offers, or extensions of my contracts that are crazy long, just by playing well with others. Doing my job well, meeting expectations, and being very dependable is part of my MO, and is my secret to longevity in a line of work that generally has a shelf life of 2-3 years, max, and I've been doing the travel nursing gig for about 10 out of my 15 year nursing career. But enough of me tooting my own horn. It's funny to hear someone echo those thoughts almost exactly, almost on the same day.
....great minds think alike *grin*

I get a lot of non-professionalism from some tradespeople---handymen, painters, or whomever. Not returning calls when they say they will, being late with estimates, crap like that.

Zappa's excellent song FLAKES addresses this issue pretty intelligently and humorously, I think.
