Guilty of being white
On racism….
Skin color in and of itself is meaningless to me. It’s like my cats, one is white, one brown, one tiger. The tiger one is nuts and claws me, but I don’t think it’s because of his color. It’s because he’s nuts.
I figured out where I stand on racism. I have always maintained that I am not racist, and still do. But I’ve wondered how I consign my views with this truth: When I’m in a black or Latino neighborhood I am on guard, prepared for trouble.
I finally figured out what it is: I do not think non-white people are bad. But it’s been my experience that when I’m in a non-white neighborhood, non-white people tend to think that *I* am bad.
I do not dislike non-whites. I am simply on alert of non-whites who dislike ME because I’m white. I am not racist. I am wary of non-whites who are racist.

(Anyone who thinks that this attitude of mine IS racist, does not understand how the world works. And I expect to take more shit from liberal whites for this than from non-whites. Especially from whites who “understand the struggle” of non-whites, but have never lived in a non-white neighborhood. I lived in a black ghetto neighborhood in Washington DC, the year the mayor got busted for crack. And I lived in Hispanic neighborhoods my first 16 years I lived in California. I know what I’m talking about.)

I suspect the very people who would vilify you are the very ones who would never set foot in the ghetto. They’d be afraid of the same things you’re wary of.
I think problem is one of class, much more so than of race. I am white, but I’d worry a lot about being in certain very poor, white neighborhoods MUCH more than I would being in a neighborhood filled with black millionaires. When people have enough money, the incentive for thugism seems to vanish. When they’re poor (and especially when they’re ignorant), look out.
Matter of fact, I think if I was wandering through a neighborhood filled with non-white millionaires, they’d be kind of worried about ME.

Yup. It’s about class, not race. Rich people use the race thing to keep the poor fighting among themselves. If poor whites, blacks and browns all stopped the fighting for a minute, they’d join hands in a happy rainbow and kill the rich.
I’ve been escorted out of a millionaire white neighborhood by rent-a-cops just for not living there. After leaving a friend’s house.
That friend is now a Wall Street attorney. I still like him, despite that. (Actually, I doubt he’s to blame at all for what happened lately, but I’m sure he’s getting steady work from it.)

Interesting that I posted this subject a few hours before the OJ verdict. Had no idea it was coming today.
Wonder if there will be rioting in the streets? Whites dragged out of their cars again and beaten just for being white? That shit is weak.

It must be noted in fairness that, during the insanity of the Rodney King riots, some black folks stepped in to protect whites who were about to have their asses stomped.
But you’re right, going after someone because they’re in the “wrong” group is bullshit.

i am half black but look as white as greg brady so the whole race issue has always been a funny thing for me
talk about confusion and a bird’s eye view
none the less …..a pudgy middle aged short tow headed white boy in the hood who has at least an infinitesimale amount of self preservation instinct would be the fool NOT to be on guard, alert and PARANOID as FUCK of his surroundings!
RACIST?
HELL NO
SMART?
HELL YEAH!
that said ANYONE in the hood must watch they back… PERIOD ….regardless of skin tone and melanin content.
BLACK ON BLACK crime far out weighs “inter racial” crime in the hood-a fact jack!
compton for instance is the most violent city in amerikkka.
camden NJ is right behind it with regard to murders per year.
2 places you never want to go.
there are no real reasons for anyone who doesn’t live in the hood to be in such places
.unless you are a crip/blood /or a utility worker or a local person who was born and raised there ,or have a trade/blue collar job that requires you be there…you should STAY FAR THE FUCK AWAY FROM THESE PLACES.
Am i over stating the obvious ?
yup but its easy to forget the hood is hell on earth

Funniest thing I’ve heard lately was on the news, gay marriage rally in west Hollywood, gays start yelling at the blacks “It’s your fault prop 8 passed!” Black guy yells at gay guy “You guys are the KKK in Abercrombie & Fitch.”
Hilarious.
I’m moving to Mars when I get the chance. People cannot get along, the world is too crowded, and no one is decent to each other about anything any more.

Idiot on a conservative board where I occasionally argue said he’s moving to Canada. He hates even the spectre of potential socialism (and no doubt same-sex marriage) so much, he’s gonna move to a socialist country where gay marriage is legal.
[Bobby Hill voice] “Uhhhh . . . OK”

Forgot to add that I am in no way in favor of socialism.

Love it John. All replies. You and I are both sounding like we’re giving credence to that old saying “If you’re young and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you’re older and not a conservative, you have no heart.”
Though I think our idea of “conservative” is a lot different than my dad’s idea of it.

Also from King of the Hill:
“Important” New York conceptual artist: (yelling) “I’LL MAKE SURE TEXAS *NEVER* GETS ANOTHER SHOWING OF MODERN ART!!!!!”
Sheriff: (calmly) “We’ll get by.”

KotH rules. Fox should be burned to the ground for cancelling it (and all the other great shows they did their damnedest to get on the air then turn around and kill).
NOTE: I am not advocating terroristic actions against the Fox network, even though Bill O’Reilly is a bigoted fuckhead.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:50 am
But if there were no Bill O’Reilly, there really couldn’t be a Colbert show! Colbert is a total parody of O’Reilly.

p.s. I’m pretty sure Bobby Hill is gay. He’s not sure yet, but I think Connie is his “beard.”
And she’s really named Kahn Jr. His girlfriend even has a boy’s name.
