Open carry vacation to Wyoming, day 1
(Fuzzy says, “What the fark!?? Why do mommie and daddy have all this stuff out here?? Last time this happened, they went away for a long time and some other dude stayed over here and fed us. Oh crap! That’s the other dude at the door now! Meh!) :
Howdy! So….It’s 5:09 AM here in Provo, Utah. Just went outside and had a couple smokes in a row (”nico-loading”), since this LDS-run hotel does not allow smoking in the rooms. But they do make great coffee, and I’m drinking that, too.
Debra Jean and I are on our vacation to Wyoming. She’s still snoozing soundly, which is good, because she loves to drive, and we have a eleven-or-so-hour drive today. Yesterday was a 12-hour drive, the longest of the trip. We’re about 90 miles from the Wyoming border now, and leaving in a couple hours.
I slept five hours, and honestly, I could use more sleep, but I’m too excited. Because once we cross that border into Wyoming, WE CAN OPEN CARRY OUR PISTOLS LIKE FREE HUMANS! I am anticipating opening those lock boxes and strapping on our freedom with the anticipation of a kid up early on on Christmas morn. (Though it’s not a gift, it’s a right.) I have never open carried a gun outside our house, and have never legally carried a gun even concealed. Can’t be done in California (unless your a judge or a movie star). Which is why we’re moving to Wyoming in a month or two. (There are a lot of other reasons we’re moving, but they all boil down to freedom, and as a state, nation, politician or citizen views the right to self-defense, so they view everything. I truly believe that!)
I’m going to post every day on this vacation. This post won’t have any open carry, but it has some fun photos, and has what will lead up to the open carry.

7 AM, we make it to beautiful sunny downtown Baker California. It’s about 98 degrees and it’s 7 am:
Debra Jean pumps:
It was a great day, no rain, no traffic, no cops. Left at 5 AM, got to Provo 11 hours later. But I digress…:
Zyzzyx Road. Gotta love that name (someone even named a movie after it):
Zyzzyx California is in the Mojave Desert. It was 104 degrees at this point. But our li’l light truck was running grandly, the whole way.
The Bellagio in Vegas.
Meh. The only thing Vegas is good for in my mind is a backdrop for the show “CSI.” (Well, there was a huge billboard on the entire side of a skyscraper for Penn and Teller, but I didn’t snap the photo in time.)
As soon as we left California and Vegas, the view got better. Here are some stunning Canyons in Utah. Barely does justice in photos, but wow!
Utah sure is pretty. It’s God’s country, for sure:
(Does that make California “Satan’s Country?”)
Snow on mountain tops in Utah:
Finally. At the hotel. Here’s the lovely mountain view outside the hotel window:
Not happy about having to smoke outside:
though there was a nice view while we smoked:
My lovely wife with snow-capped Utah mountains behind here:
MEW!:
Well, there you have it. First day of trip to taste freedom. I’m finally adjusting a tiny bit to the altitude, though still have some residual muscle cramps, and I feel euphoric. Debra Jean gets up in a few minutes, then we’ll have a nice, leisurely smoke-free breakfast, read the USA Today and jump in the car.
Tune in tomorrow for more fun, and some guns!

I made that trip in October of ‘05 and remember it well. Can’t wait to meet you both!

Jeez Mike,
You got your woman driving and filling up gas… I have some things to learn from you, lol. Anyway, me and a few folks from Concord did an OC stroll downtown yesterday and everything went peachy, no hassles. I hope you to have fun in WY, don’t forget you’re always welcome to come visit us out east. Catch ya later.

Hi, Michael,
I assume you still don’t have a CCW from any state as yet.
Otherwise, I’d think you’d be carrying concealed already.
Simply treat you weapon as you do any other appendage of your body (no! not that!!) and you’ll do just fine.

Nice buzz cut as we used to call it. That cat looks serious, I wouldn’t touch your luggage;-} When you get to Newcastle, give us a shout. Not sure if going to the Appleseed, might have work to do, never know, but Sylvia is off for five days so a lunch or dinner is open whenever. Seniortech just got eye surgery so he’s not going anywhere, but I’m sure we can get him here to meet you both as well. He is impressed with you’all(southern phrase, cause he is) moving so quick. We have lots of food, including some recent wild stuff from a friend/customer so feel free.

Why wait until Wyoming? Both Nevada and Utah do not require a license to OC. (Though in UT you will need to keep you sidearm ‘2 steps’ from firing, which generally means an empty chamber)
