More hate for me from my old leftie friends
E-mail I just got from Jay Crawford, guitarist from Bomb. (When I sent him a link to my new band.)
This guy was like a brother to me, we practically lived together, on the road, for years.

Michael…..Once some one gets talked into these right wing ideas very rarely can they be talked back…..This new found cocky way of life (in my opinion) is very wrong, very immoral and very dangerous. I’m older then you so consider my opinion if you still can…I doubt you will.
This makes me very sad.
…….Good luck, dumb fuck.

Sounds like he thinks I needs an intervention, followed by me going “voluntarily” to a “re-education” camp. seriously.

Ouch.

I know!
At least a few other old friends have said “I love you and I’m worried about you.”
That’s them feeling superior, but it’s certainly no “Good luck, dumb fuck.”

One question I have is this: Is there anything in the libertarian (or however you would describe your current worldview) which you’re skeptical about?
Because I’m a liberal, but there’s TONS of stuff I’m skeptical about when it comes to left wing politics.
To give you a concrete example, I’m in favor of universal healthcare but think that global warming may be partly hysteria and exaggeration so some people can get more money/power.

Yes. I’m still torn on “is it throwing away my vote to vote for a third party in a critical election.”
If Obama runs against a decent Republican in 2012, I may break down and vote Republican. Some people I know say that means I’m not a TRUE libertarian.

When someone asks me what I “am” (politically / spiritually / philosophically speaking) I invite them to ask me a series of questions so THEY can decide what I “am,” because ultimately, they decide anyway. Which is the problem with these labels. They’re basically meaningless.
If someone says “I’m conservative” or “I’m liberal” I might asked: Compared to whom?
I could say: “I’m strong!” OK, maybe to a 90-year-old retired librarian. To an Olympic power-lifter, probably not.
So for example: if Libertarianism has, say, 20 main tenets and you only “believe in” 17 of them, are you still Libertarian? Who gets to decide? And if you’re NOT Libertarian but instead some kind of hybrid, what name do we attach to it?
We all walk around in trances because we all rely on language to communicate our thoughts, and language is very imprecise and subject to gross misinterpretation.
Just like this comment, perhaps.

Nunzio:
I’m not really sure what to call myself. I’m fiscally to the right of Scrooge McDuck, and socially more liberal than a boat load of gay drunk Vikings about to hit land after a year at sea.
Math chart to explain it:

This is great—RAW = Robert Anton Wilson?

Never crossed my mind. But I like it.
RAW is what the folks call me on ConservativePunk.com forum. My username there is RightArmOfWyoming. They started calling me “RAW” because it’s easier to type.

You’ve seem to have become obsessed with guns and gun culture.
whoopee
lil man
big gun
I can appreciate the want and need for home protection and your obvious knee jerk reaction to being robbed.
But at this point, its not only silly but just lame from an outsider’s perspective.
I own a shotgun and have been in combat in the first gulf war.
If you saw what real violence amounts too ..I doubt you would be as gung ho about weaponry as you are.
You are an extreme person=all or nothing.
whatever you do …you do it to death
an admirable trait when applied to meaningful endeavors[books/art/music etc]
when you did drugs …you were a junky
it’s kinda sad that you have designed your life around firearms .you’ve moved to a culturally devoid wasteland and become a borderline redneck right wing geek
great accomplishment dudee
you seem happy, but in all honesty its weird to watch someone “hip” become so walmart/red lobster/middle american fat so fast.
Too bad for you,but predictable considering your extreme personality.
hopefully one day you will grow out of the gun phase
not a good look
focus on nutrition/diet and creating great art again
those are obsessions that will really mean something in the long run

We love this “culturally devoid wasteland” (Wyoming). People leave ya alone!

Hey Michael, while I may not believe everything exactly the same way that you do, I will always have your back on your right to have and freely voice your opinion. And the same goes for all of you. And you know, if Michael is right and it takes having a gun to help keep the freedom of expression we now have, well then I’m glad he and DJ have them. I currently do not have one, but may sometime in the future.

Here’s a good quote for the people who are telling me I’m living a “wrong life”, like Jay from Bomb:
—–
“To argue with a man who has renounced his reason is like giving medicine to the dead.”

As for that Wyoming being a “redneck cultural wasteland”, I love it here. Just because I can’t see angry feminist anti-American plays four nights a week, well, it’s reminding me of a “King of the Hill” episode. Where that New York City artist screamed “I’ll make sure you never have another important modern art showing in this state again!” and the sheriff calmly drawls….”We’ll get by….”
I called my stepson in Orange County yesterday, told him we’d seen antelope, cows, a badger and a llama while on the way to the range.
He said,
“Well….I got panhandled by a homeless guy who kinda looked looked like Bin Laden.”
lol…..
I love Wyoming.
