BUY A GUN, LOSE ALL YOUR FRIENDS. (A true story of Republitarian redemption.)
Article I wrote that’s on the Republican Liberty Caucus blog:

Also mirrored at the Liberty Republican Forum, here:

“We feel like we left California and moved to AMERICA.”
That is the summary and best line of the article.

Loved the article! Disappointed that Maine is #39 for Overall Freedom. (As of November, the gays here can use pot but can’t marry. Go figure.)

Great article, I feel more or less the same way, seems like some of us in the punk comunity are begining to understand which political ideology is the one that stands for individual rights and smaller government.

Loved the article on http://libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com. I got a chuckle out of the bit about not telling your brother NRA, GOA etc members you used to vote for San Fran Nan and company. I figure you don’t have much to worry about. We don’t care how you used to vote. Only how you vote now.
Rock on!

And I sent the URL to my friend at the JPFO. He liked it!

I agree with mom. They weren’t your friends in the first place. They probably think they were, though.

Michael,
While I am neither an “inner circle” friend, nor even a “fringe” player, I have followed your work since the Bomb days, through early writings (e.g., Simple Pleasures…), more tangible projects ($30___ School), DIY or DIE, etc…
While having a carry permit, shooting, or owning are completely out of my vocabulary and interests, it has been interesting to watch this process (even if it is partially in a NASCAR kinda way)… some may try and argue that it is a growth process, but I see it differently (subjectively, from afar and through my lens)…
For what its worth, to me, there is nothing more ballsy or “punk” than having the guts to leave an environment or lifestyle that is not healthy for you, pack up the gear, and move to Wyoming…
So, to a fringe player/fan/quasi-friend who would never be sending or receiving Xmas cards anyway, you certainly haven’t become less interesting!

Thanks man!
And I’m gonna go strap in my balls and shovel the front walk. That’s something I haven’t done much in 25 years!

Enjoyed your article very much.
I’m a Christian (missionary) and when I first read $30 Film School I thought, “Wow, this guy is really cool. His beliefs are very different from my own but regardless, it would be great to hang out with this guy.”
Later I checked out your blog and I thought, “This guy is so cool. He’s totally inspiring me.” So I started praying for you. I think you know how Christians are (supposed to be), we don’t want anyone to go to hell so we pray that people will believe in Jesus.
I remember when you wrote about your daughter being a light-filled Christian. I wept thinking that’s exactly the kind of Christian I long to be (but a long ways to go).
When you and your wife got guns, I thought, “Wow, these guys are changing!”
You responded to a few of my posts and I thought, “Cool! I got an email from MWD!”
Then you moved to Wyoming and wrote about the differences between there and California (I’m from San Diego). And you wrote about liberty and freedom and politics. You wrote new music. And I thought, “This guy and I have more in common now than before but regardless, he’s still cool.”
And then I read about how all your friends have abandoned you. I don’t get that. You were inspiring and motivating me when we were on opposite ends of the spectrum. We may be a little closer now but it’s always been stimulating. How could your friends give that up? Why give that up just because you don’t see eye-to-eye?
Thanks for writing with such passion and respect.
