The way politicans SHOULD be
OK, this is kind of mindblowing…
Tonight I got an e-mail from Sue Wallis, a Republican member of the Wyoming House of Representatives. She said “I loved the story” (Buy a gun, lose all your friends), and she welcomed me to Wyoming.
She also gave me her cell number and her ranch number.
I couldn’t directly contact a State House member in California when I lived there if I wanted to (I tried.) All I got back is a form letter.
To have one contact me is kind of amazing.
I’m sure it’s partially a function of it being a much smaller state. But I think it’s also a function of the fact that people are just darned friendly in Wyoming.
She has an A rating from the NRA too.

I found this quote somewhere and wanted to get your reaction:
“What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican Party? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things, every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, ‘Liberal,’ as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won’t work, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.”
I’m just kind of speechless.

I heard a statistic today on the radio. Something about how that Wyoming has one of the fastest-growing populations of all of the U.S. states. I’m starting to see why.

Serene said she was “just kind of speechless. Couldn’t prove to me!
Serene, I suggest reading a book by the great economist, Thomas Sowell, titled “Applied economics: thinking beyond stage one.” This book is just the ticket for shallow liberals who see life only on the surface. All the items you mentioned have economic consequences that screws liberal politicians base; the “working class.” See how these compassionate folks treat their “proletariats?” But in the liberal world view, facts are simply, “just words.”
And dear, please read up on some history. It was not liberal Democrats who passed the civil rights act through. Yep, it was those pesky, dirty Republicans. But then again, those are just words… and facts.

William, I think, based on other posts here, that Serene is a libertarian/conservative. I think her being “speechless” was at the audacity of the quote (the quote not her words.)
Correct me if I’m wrong, Serene…..

My apologies to Serene. This is what happens when seasonal insomnia gets in the way of clear thinking, especially when one is bombarded with these very rants daily from the left side in the “progressive” college town I live in. I shall with humble modesty, eat my embarrassment, for I too am a conservative-libertarian. Or in other words, Republitarian.

Michael, you’re correct; I almost added, “I’m speechless from the sheer amount of STUPID.” The quote was found and posted by a very liberal acquaintence of mine. And I suppose, if anything, I’m a Republitarian, too.
William, you’re forgiven. I’ve done the same thing far too many times to count! And I totally understand where you’re coming from — too many of my friends are either college students or from progressive college towns. I was going to make that observation in my post, but wasn’t sure who else I’d offend.

And my opinion on the original quote, is that some of those things were actually more or less *bi-partisan*.
The current health care fiasco is the only thing as major as this that has been rammed through entirely by one party, against the will of over 70% of the American people.
I have hope for the next year or so. Things are going to change the other way a bit.
