Bill would lower volume of loud TV commercials

Give me a fucking break.
I hate loud commercials as much as the next guy, but is this really something we need to pay the government to “protect” us from??!!
Of course the bill was written by a California Democrat. I think they’re just trying to further quash free trade throughout America, to more quickly nationalize everything.
| The brief measure directs the Federal Communications Commission to develop regulations preventing ads from being “excessively noisy or strident” or “having modulation levels substantially higher than the accompanying program.” The bill also addresses “average maximum loudness.” |

Wouldn’t bother me in the least.
I rarely watch TV precisely because of those motherfucking commercials.
I think there ought to be a law strictly governing the number of those fuckers, when they can play (ONLY in a group at the top or bottom of the hour, NOT scattered throughout the hour) and that the peak dB level can be no higher than the peak dB level of the program the spot is interrupting.
The idea that commerce take precedence over everything in America is as ridiculous as religion or big government or cult figures or anything else taking precedence. I think there’s been more than enough kissing of the ass of bankers and businessmen.
Still love ya, dude. You know that.

all I can say is “Nannystate”…
I prefer to vote with my feet or in this case with my remote control….

Art- me too.
Nunzio, I really hate loud commercials, and have said “there oughta be a law” in the past.
My new years resolution is to convince you that less government is better. I think I can do it, because you’re so much like me under the hood. We’ll talk on the phone after the new year!

Just do what I do . . . Don’t watch TV. Somebody could steal the blasted contraption from my house and I probably wouldn’t notice it was missing for a month or more.
I remember complaining years ago, when I used to watch TV occasionally, about the volume of commercials but a law to govern it? PUHLEASE! Tells me that either the government is hell bent on regulating every inch of everything, or they must figure all of the real problems are solved if they’re wasting time on crap like that.
The volume of commercials has nothing to do with why I don’t watch it though. Has more to do with the fact that TV is, IMHO of course, nothing but a delivery vehicle for social engineering mind rot anyway, y’all may be surprised how easy it is to do without if you tried it. Leaves a lot of time to do something constructive too instead of swallowing the stupid pill they’re trying to feed everyone. Get a hobby, read, research things you’re curious about on the internet, all of the above, anything beats the hell out of the garbage they put on the tube these days.

“I don’t like being exposed to Kenny G’s music, cigarette smoke or patchouli oil, but I will defend the right of other folks to have all that junk, the right of business owners to allow it, and my right not to have to be around it. Government should not regulate anything that citizens can avoid by turning around and walking out.”

Why the hell do we even have an FCC in the year 2010? Cable and the internet have made it pretty irrelevant.

Molly,
Because large organizations where lots of people have good jobs and “power” don’t often say “Hey! We’re irreverent! Let’s disband!”
(The same could be said of a lot of the government, especially at the Federal level.)
