Dwayne Douglas Johnson (The Rock) is an ex-wrestler and a box office star. He starred in The Fast and the Furious and Hercules. The charismatic Johnson started the acting career by leading the role in The Scorpion King (2002) after made a successful wrestling career.

He was born in Hayward, California on May 2, 1972 and grew up in wrestler family. Johnson is a well-known athlete since he was young. He used to be a football player in college, joined the University of Miami’s national championship team in 1991. He later became a professional wrestler, followed the path of his father Rocky Johnson and grandfather Peter “High Chief” Maivia. Dwayne Johnson was famous for his ring persona that was recognized in World Wrestling Foundation.

He made a debut in New York City under the ring name “Rocky Maivia” a combo from his grandfather and father’s name. After winning the 1997 WWF championship as his first win, he suffered a knee injury and took some time to heal and re-strategize. He came back with a new image as “The Rock”, much well-prepared to enter the ring. The crown went wild and he got lots of support from the fans as he became one of the most famous wrestler. His name and figure also appeared on merchandises. With his better skills and image, the WWF got $120 million in merchandise sales.

His star on the fame, Johnson then published his autobiography and went on New York Times bestseller list for weeks in 2000. With his movie-star look, Dwayne Johnson entered the entertainment industry for promoting the book and playing some roles. He was featured in several television shows, including Star Trek: Voyager and Saturday Night Live.

Johnson made a big screen debut in The Mommy Returns as supportive role. He then starred in The Scorpion King, an action film that rose his name. He was praised for his great talent as the new comer in the Hollywood. The following year, Johnson took another roles in an action-comedy The Rundown and successfully surprised the audience with his acting ability. Some people said he was not only good at playing in actions, but the comedy as well. He became so busy working in several films in the mid-2000s, made him a top action star.

He was still managed to do wrestling in the middle of his film project and returned to wrestling from time to time. In 2014, he appeared at WrestleMania 30 alongside Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Johnson also consistently made an appearance in action films, including Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and played a role as strong man in Hercules (2014). He lent his voice to Disney’s animated film Moana in 2016. Johnson showed his wrestling through a based-on-true-story film Fighting with My Family (2019) and played a role as himself.
