American musician Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson is a pop singer who famous for her catchy hit songs and her signature style with colorful-quirky design. An award-winning singer, Katy Perry is also known as a philanthropist and businesswoman.

Katy was born on October 25, 1984 in California as the second child. Grew up in a conservative family, Katy with her two siblings were not allowed to listen to any nonreligious music. Katy Perry learned to sing at the age 9 and start playing guitar 4 years later. As her musical taste developed, she became a fan of Freddie Mercury and influenced by his music. A 15-year-old Katy then moved to Nashville to pursue her career in music. She made a debut with a gospel-influenced album, “Katy Hudson” in 2001 but did not success. Katy later moved to Los Angeles, worked for another album and went from one label to another. She started using her mother’s maiden name, Perry as her stage name.

After the ups-and-downs, she signed to Capitol Records in 2007. Her single “Ur So Gay” was released on November the same year and became a successful move. Katy Perry was noticed by Madonna who mentioned her during a radio session. Katy then released the electro-pop single “I Kissed a Girl” which gained much attention. It received some critics which said the song was promoting same-sex relationship. At the other side, it was Katy’s chart-topper single in 2008 and boosted the sales of her album, One of the Boys.

The song also peaked the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks, meanwhile the album has been certified platinum. The success followed the next single, “Hot N Cold” which made Katy rose to stardom. She received a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and was nominated in the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. Katy Perry was also busy with the concert tour and several collaborations.

In 2010, she released Teenage Dream with some hit songs including “California Girls” and “Teenage Dream” which shot to the top of the charts. The achievements made her as the second artist who has five tracks as No. 1 from an album. It followed with the new edition of her previous album with several hit singles in 2012. She continued to establish herself as an awesome singer by releasing “Roar” from the 2013 album Prism. In 2020, she had “Never Worn White”, a single that she used to declare her pregnancy.

Katy Perry also appeared as a judge in singing competition show American Idol and the X Factor. Outside of singing, she lent her voice for The Smurfs sequels in 2011 and 2013. She then launched her music label Unsub Records in 2016. Katy is chosen as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Children’s Fund and being an ambassador of the British Asian Trust in 2020. Katy and her fiancé Orlando Bloom announced the birth of their child in 2020.
